The push-pull cable is a special variant of the Bowden cable and in addition to absorbing tensile loads, it can also transmit high compressive forces. They are used in a wide range of industries. They are used, for example, for:

>> Drives
>> Locks
>> Activities
>> Brakes
>> Gas actuation
>> Circuit
>> Selection
>> Blocking
>> Control system

Description:

Like the Bowden cables, the push-pull cable consists of a multi-layer construction of a pressure-resistant guide sheath, also called outer sheath, guide tube or jacket. The guide sheath consists of the inner tube, a wire mesh with support wire armoring which surrounds the inner tube and a cover layer of plastic which protects the construction from environmental influences.

Technical structure:

The inner tube made of plastic is used to guide the inner cable (for push-pull cables usually a wire rope with flat band armoring) and prevents the metal from rubbing against metal. This guide tube is reinforced with a metal wire to absorb higher forces and increase the service life of the cable. The metal wire here consists of round wires. In the most technically sophisticated version of the Bowden cable, the wires are also placed around the inner tube at a certain impact angle and reinforced with a support wire.

Construction with support wire reinforcement:

This high-quality version of the Bowden cable, the push-pull cable, is used, for example, for gear selection in manual transmissions in vehicles.

Key technical data:

In practice the following standards have emerged.

Outer diameter of the sheath: from 5 - 10 mm, body is available in galvanized steel and stainless steel
Outer diameter of the inner cable (wire rope): 1.5 - 5 mm; cable construction: 1x7, 1x19, 7x7, 7x19; design of the cable is possible in galvanized steel and stainless steel
Force absorption: 5 - 10,000 Newton in tension and up to 6,000 Newton in compression
Temperatures: -50°C to + 100°C (permanent) ; up to 180°C possible
Bending radii: from 30 mm
Efficiency: from factor 1.1 for a 180° installation to factor 1.9 for a 720° installation

Advantages of the Bowden cable immediately:

>> High efficiency
>> Complex installation possible
>> Very robust
>> Transmission of compressive and tensile forces
>> Long service life
>> No maintenance necessary
>> Absorbs high environmental pollution
>> High modularity
